Redhill Football Volunteer

Big Leaf Foundation is a small charity working with displaced young people in Surrey. Our aim is to provide a nurturing programme of activities, projects and events that focus on combating social isolation and improving wellbeing for the young people we support.

We’re looking for volunteers in Redhill to join our team and help provide a nurturing programme of activities as part of our weekly sport provision.

About the role

Big Leaf Foundation provides support to displaced young people through regular projects and activities that focus on combating social isolation, building a safe and welcoming community, improving health and wellbeing and providing opportunities to learn and develop new skills. We are expanding our sports provision for young people, including managing and running two weekly football sessions, organising more regular sports events as well as making referrals for young people to help them access local sports clubs. 
  • Salary: Voluntary (+expenses)
  • Location: Surrey
  • Hours: Friday 7pm- 8.30pm
  • Reports to: Sports Programme Manager​

Job description

KEY TASKS​
  • Actively participating in sports sessions with young people and building trusted working relationships.
  • Support the coaching team and Sports Programme Manager to ensure the smooth running of each football session.
  • ​Understand your responsibilities in regard to safeguarding and data protection and use this to inform your work with BLF – identifying and responding appropriately to safeguarding and protection issues arising during sports activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and clear boundaries in all aspects of the role.

Person specification

SKILLS
  • A passion for sports and facilitating activities for young people.
  • Good interpersonal, diplomacy and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use emotional support skills in a calm and responsible manner.
  • Caring, supportive, helpful, with non-judgmental attitude and able to instill/maintain confidence.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Good English skills in person, by phone, and writing are desirable.
  • Good awareness of safeguarding issues.
  • Enhanced DBS certification (child workforce) or willingness to undertake DBS check.

VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE
As a volunteer we acknowledge your commitment to the role by providing:
  • An induction programme to ensure volunteers understand the remit of their role.
  • Training and development will be offered in areas where volunteers have less experience and knowledge.
  • Debriefs after events and activities. 
  • The opportunity to gain experience in facilitating sports-related activities, including running, football sessions.
