Big Leaf Foundation put together a programme of online engagements to respond to the needs of our young people during this time of continued uncertainty.

We know this is a difficult time for the young people we support, with restrictions on meeting friends, worries about keeping safe or difficulties accessing school or college.

Combating social isolation and fostering a sense of stability and belonging is central to our ethos. And now, more than ever, it’s essential that we keep talking so we’ve put together a collection of online activities for displaced young people to help them:
  • improve English
  • stay connected
  • ask questions.

From Monday 8 March 2021 the programme will include:
Mondays | English words, speaking & grammar (E1/E2 and E3/L1) | 6pm - 7pm
Words and expressions common in UK life, which you don’t always learn in the classroom and a chance to practise grammar away from the books, using speaking activities and games.

Tuesdays | Maths | 6pm - 7pm
Come with all your maths questions and practise everything you need for your exams, using challenges and games.
How to take part
Our Keep Talking programme is open to displaced young people (aged 15+) living in Surrey. Young people are welcome to attend whenever they feel like it. All sessions will be held on Zoom and we'll send out links direct to the young people in advance.

If you know of a young person who would like to participate who we are not already in touch with, or does not have the necessary equipment for online learning, please let us know.

You can also download our Keep Talking flyer to share with the young people you support.
Other resources
Visit our Keep Talking resources page to access online video tutorials, language sheets and activity ideas from lockdown one.

COVID-19 ADVICE
We have produced written translations of NHS and government advice surrounding COVID-19 in the languages spoke by our young people. Please visit our COVID-19 advice page to download these resources, and please do share with anyone you think would benefit from these.
