We are part of the Together with Refugees Coalition.
Together with Refugees is a coalition of over 300 organisations calling for a kinder, fairer and more effective approach to supporting displaced people in the UK. We wanted to show how much backing there is for a compassionate approach to displacement in Surrey and make it clear to this Government that the Borders and Nationality Bill is not representative of the wants of the Surrey community.
The Illegal Migration Act will criminalise those seeking sanctuary, creating a two-tier system that will punish and penalise people based upon their mode of travel. We already know that there is significant support for displaced people in Surrey thanks to the unfailing and ever-growing kindness exhibited by our network of partners, donors and friends, but we wanted to create a tangible demonstration of this compassion.
We hosted the pop-up at Zero Carbon, a wonderful community-led space in the heart of Guildford. We invited our network of partners, friends, donors and passersby to fill out orange hearts with welcome messages to displaced people in the county and notes to this Government.
Below are some of the wonderful, thoughtful and poignant messages we received.

With huge thanks to Zero Carbon Guildford for the use of their space and to the whole team for the assistance and support. We're also deeply grateful to everyone who came down and all the people we met for the first time. It was incredibly warming to see this compassion first-hand, and we look forward to hosting many similar events in the future
