.Thanks to the support of Active Surrey and Sport England, we've teamed up with Martyn at Streetwise Safety Training to run outdoor circuit training sessions through the summer.
As part of our new Park Gym project, Martyn and his team of experienced personal instructors will lead our young people through a series of exercises to target strength building and muscular endurance.
The young people we support have told us how difficult it has been staying indoors for long periods during lockdown, and many have especially missed being able to go to the gym. But we're also concerned about the impact of boredom and increased isolation on their mental wellbeing during this time.
The Park Gym project will provide a valuable opportunity to spend more time outside through a focused training programme, to re-engage with the community, improve English through communication with instructors, and boost physical and mental wellbeing through social connection, teamwork and friendly competition.
When and where Please contact us for details. How to take part Places on this project are limited and will be allocated on a first-come basis. If you know of a displaced young person (aged 16-25) living in Surrey who is currently isolated and would like to take part, please contact us asap.
Our partners Streetwise Safety Training provides personal safety and fitness training in Surrey. Chief instructor, Martyn, is a highly experienced trainer in fitness, personal safety and conflict management and mental health, who provides specialist courses to government and private organisations, nationally and overseas. He is now part of the team delivering personal safety training at Surrey Police, and as a former police officer himself has 30 years of experience working within the communities of Surrey.
With special thanks to Active Surrey andSport Englandfor funding this project and to Guildford Borough Council for use of their public park to run these sessions.
COVID-19 ADVICE We will follow the latest government and PHE guidelines around social distancing for all of our outdoor activities with special risk assessments in place to ensure our young people, our team and our partners are safe at all times.
